Welcome to my Malaysian Gyms Page!
Gyms in Malaysia vary massively in terms of standard and pricing. But as gyms in Asia go, I found Malaysia to offer some of the very best. Large cities such as Kuala Lumpur and Penang offer a remarkable number of gyms, which are on par with top chains in Western countries. I even found a Fitness First in KL! Other top chains here include Celebrity Fitness and Peak Fitness.
These clubs are all modern, air-conditioned and have several studios including Yoga, Spinning and a general class studio. Les Mills classes are common here and generally taught to a very high standard. Gym staff and instructors alike spoke a excellent level of English, as is typical in Malaysia. The downside of these gyms is a high daily rate – between RM 50 – RM 70 is normal, though a few offer a weekly rate.
The good news is that you’ll be able to get a free pass to some, and I’ve included links on individual gym posts.
At the other end of the scale, I found some much less advanced gyms. These won’t have aircon and might not even have fans. Equipment is typically old and decor is sometimes tatty, but if you’ve been to other “local” gyms in Asia (eg Indonesia, Vietnam), you won’t be too shocked by anything here. The good news is the price tag, which is typically around RM 5! Affordable and does the job.
Note that outside of KL, it’s not uncommon for gyms to open as late as 8:00 or 9:00am, so if you’re an early riser then check this beforehand. They usually stay open until at least 21:00, with some remaining open until 23:00 or midnight.
