Location
VPT Fitness Son Tra is well-located on the beach side of Danang and is easy to find. It is correctly labelled on Google maps as Trung Tam The Thao VPT Fitness 4. You’ll easily spot the large sign outside. Note that there are several VPT clubs around Danang – this is the only one I’ve visited to date.
Facilities at VPT Fitness Son Tra
This no-frills gym is one of the better ones I’ve been to, as it’s well lit with some colour. Equipment is generally in good condition. You’ll see some fans around (doesn’t mean they’ll be switched on!) and I even saw a couple of aircon units. But prepare to get hot and sweaty if you aren’t when you arrive. The little aircon they have is not particularly effective. But in preparation for this, a towel is included in the price along with free water refills, and you’ll need both.
The gym is medium-sized and broadly split into cardio machines, weights and a small functional training area. Additionally you’ll find a studio upstairs, offering predominantly yoga and Zumba classes.
Weights
VPT Fitness Son Tra has a fairly small free weights area, including dumbbells up to 30kg and some adjustable barbells in various shapes and sizes. You’ll find a set of narrow cables with pull up bars, a Smith machine and a squat rack here. Additionally, they’ve provided 6 bench presses – three flat, two inclined and one declined.
There are a handful of plate-loadable machines too, namely a leg press, rear back and ab crunch.
They’ve also provided some weights benches, two abs benches and a hip extension. There’s also a fair number of resistance machines for both the upper and lower body.

Functional Training
You’ll find a small green area dedicated to floor space near the back of the gym. This hosts a few mats, a BOSU, foam roller and a couple of Swiss balls and step boards. Kettlebells appear scattered in random places around the gym – consider it a free treasure hunt!
I saw three vibration machines here too; these seem to be quite popular in Vietnam.
Cardio
All the cardio equipment at VPT Fitness Son Tra is located at the front of the building, looking out towards the street. I counted six treadmills, two crosstrainers and three Spin bikes in all.
Studio
The spacious attractive studio is upstairs and looks to be in good condition. You’ll find mats and blocks here for yoga, which makes up the majority of the timetable. The classes are limited to just yoga and Zumba, but I saw around 33 per week advertised on the timetable (every day except Sunday).
Summary of VPT Fitness 4
Overall, VPT Fitness Son Tra is a well-equipped medium-sized budget gym. It caters well for a range of workouts and offers some classes. The main issue for me was the lack of aircon, but you’d expect that for this price. Take a bottle with you and refill your water for free. When I trained late Monday morning, the gym was fairly busy but not crowded. I would avoid peak times here, especially if you’re predominantly weight training, as the free weights area is small.
