Muscle Hut Fitness Club – Gym in San Ignacio
Cayo Welcome Center Grounds, Savannah St (where it joins Bullet Tree Road), San Ignacio
Opening Hours: Mon- Fri 6:00-21:00, Sat 7:00-13:00, Sun closed
Cost: B$15 per day
Location and Entry
The only obvious gym in San Ignacio, Muscle Hut Fitness Club is located centrally, up a flight of stairs to the right of the building and clearly labelled from outside.
The staff member would not budge on the slightly pricey casual use cost when I asked – and as the only gym in San Ignacio I had little bargaining power.
Facilities
Muscle Hut Fitness Club is a small to medium sized gym and well-equipped with free weights. You’ll find dumbbells up to 100lbs, adjustable barbells and discs. It is however extremely limited in cardio equipment, containing only three treadmills and one cross trainer. There is no aircon, although some of the fans were on, making it reasonably bearable at 7:30am.
You’ll find a fair amount of functional training equipment including medicine balls, Swiss balls and a BOSU, along with a roller, box to jump on and skipping rope. There are very few mats and they take the form of dirty yoga mats. However, the weights equipment is mostly in reasonable condition. I’m not sure where the pics on their website came from – I certainly saw no evidence of the rack of fixed weight barbells they show.
There is only one toilet/bathroom (in total for both genders) and it was busy when I decided to have a nose.

Summary – Muscle Hut Fitness Club
Overall this gym in San Ignacio is reasonable if you want a good weights workout. Also, you’ll find plenty of floor space, but it is overpriced for what it is. However with little to do in San Ignacio besides caving excursions (ATM cave being highly recommended!), I’d recommend those for activity before moving on swiftly!
