Location and Entry

Mach’s Gym is located in the popular budget-friendly area of Ben Thanh in Ho Chi Minh City, very close to Dinh Doc Lap (Independence Palace). It’s easy to locate from Google maps and clearly labelled. Staff did not speak much English other than communicating the price.

Facilities

Mach’s Gym is a medium-sized gym laid out over one floor. The facilities are decent and modern, typical of any Western chain. The gym is well air-conditioned and was a comfortable workout temperature throughout.

I had a brief look at the toilets and showers which also looked to be clean and attractive. There are a couple of each and although I didn’t use them, I’d have been happy to.

Lockers are provided – take your own padlock though. Also take your own towel, I don’t believe they provide them – I wasn’t offered.

Weights

Mach’s Gym has a fairly extensive weights section, including dumbbells up to 50kg. You’ll also find adjustable barbells in various shapes and sizes and plenty of discs to load them with. There are a fair number of adjustable benches in a fairly tidy and spacious area to train.

There’s a Smith machine, squat rack, cable crossovers and several racks for bench pressing. You’ll see several inclined benches for abs work, along with a hip extension bench.

As expected in a gym of this size, I also saw a moderate range of resistance equipment for both upper and lower body.

Cardio

This gym has the most modern cardio equipment I’ve seen in Ho Chi Minh so far. You’ll find around 10 treadmills, 3 crosstrainers, 2 Spin bikes, 1 upright bike and 1 (slightly older) stepper. There also looked to be a couple of new crosstrainers in the corner of the room that were still semi packaged – perhaps these are in addition to or to replace existing equipment.

Functional Training

Although there was no dedicated area for this per se, there was sufficient floor space to create your own. There are several good quality mats hanging up for general use, along with kettlebells up to 16kg, 2 Swiss balls, an abs roller and some battleropes. I did also a see a lone medicine ball!

Summary

Very nice gym and great value for the money. Overall, Mach’s Gym felt slightly bigger than the nearby Luna Gym and was marginally cheaper and slightly more modern too. I didn’t get a towel here though, so take your own. Definitely recommend due to its modern equipment, which I’m sure cardio users in particular will appreciate. Happy training!
