Location
Lifestyle Fitness Carlisle is located around 500m south of Carlisle train station. You’ll see it has its own car park and can be found opposite DW Fitness First. I told the friendly staff that I’d registered for a free pass online and they requested my SMS confirmation code. With the formalities done, staff helpfully showed me around the gym’s facilities.
You’ll find a water refill station next to the changing rooms. Take a padlock for the lockers and bring your own towel.
Facilities
This large gym is set over one floor in a logical well-laid out structure, broadly divided into cardio equipment, free weights, resistance equipment and functional training. You’ll also find a beautiful well-equipped modern studio. All equipment throughout the gym is very modern and in excellent condition. Additionally, I found the gym tidy and at a comfortable workout temperature.
Weights
Lifestyle Fitness Carlisle has an awesome free-weights section! This spacious and well-designed area contains numerous sets of pull-up bars, cable-crossovers, two Smith machines and several squat racks. There are multiple adjustable and fixed benches, including bench press stations. Even better, you’ll find plenty of space between them, so even in peak periods you shouldn’t feel to claustrophobic.
They’ve provided free-weight dumbbells up to 60kg and several adjustable barbells and if you’re wondering where the fixed weight barbells are, you’ll find them slightly unusually in the functional training area, ranging from 10 to 45kg.
You’ll find a wide selection of resistance equipment in the middle of this Carlisle gym, including an assisted pull-ups machine.
Functional Training
It’s great to see a few gyms offering such extensive functional training areas these days! Lifestyle Fitness Carlisle is no exception and has a superb area designated for this purpose. Best of all, you’ll find a large rig with overhead bars, multiple BOSUs, Swiss balls and medicine balls. They’ve also provided several ViPRs, battle ropes and plyoboxes in various sizes, along with an assortment of boxing gloves and pads and a punch bag.
Look out for kettlebells up to 24kg and a set of corebags from 10-30kg.
This area also hosts the only fixed weight barbells in gym located here; these range from 10-45kg.
Cardio
Lifestyle Fitness hosts a large cardio section with a large number of duplicates of commonly used equipment. I spotted around 15 treadmills! You’ll also find multiple crosstrainers and bikes, along with several rowing machines, a couple of spin bikes, stair-climbers and lateral trainers.
Next to the cardio equipment, I found the lesser-spotted VMX Mulitimode Rope Trainer for a good arm and lat workout!
Studio and Classes
The timetable features over 30 classes per week, including Yoga, Body Pump, Body Combat, HIIT, Cycling, Kettlebells, Legs Bums and Tums, Abs, Circuits, Functional Training and Strength and Conditioning.
Also, the studio of this Carlisle gym is well equipped with mats, lightweight dumbbells, disc weights and step boards. Everything looked new and very clean.
Summary of Lifestyle Fitness Carlisle
Lifestyle Fitness has superb facilities, with everything you’d expect at a top gym. When I attended on a weekday lunchtime, there were a fair number of other people using the club and I’m not surprised, it’s great! But thankfully, you could still get on equipment easily. Personally I preferred the layout here over DW Fitness First, as everything is on one floor and easy to find. It’s also well lit and more to my personal taste.
