Gyms In Nelson
Hey and welcome to my page on Gyms in Nelson! I hope you’re enjoying this beautiful town – I had an enjoyable stay at the YHA here – awesome kitchen facilities and great common areas. Be sure to get to Abel Tasman as well – if I tell you there are stunning hikes and scenery, it’s an understatement as just there aren’t words…
The gym I used during my short stay here was City Fitness. You can click to see full details of facilities, cost and my review. Otherwise scroll down for brief details of other gyms in Nelson.
1. City Fitness
City Fitness Nelson is part of a larger chain, which offers excellent facilities. The gyms are typically modern and well-equipped with a good range of equipment to suit all workout styles. Unfortunately it has very high casual rates, not compatible with most backpacker’s budgets. For longer term membership they have competitive packages.
2. Snap Fitness
49 Gloucester St, Nelson, Nelson-Tasman
Opening hours: 24/7, staffed hours Mon – Thu: 10:00-19:00, Fri 10:00-14:00, Sat: 9:00-13:00 (Sun closed)
This gym is close to the centre of Nelson, just a stone’s throw away from City Fitness and on the way to it.
Having established that Snap Fitness’ staffed hours began too late for me to make use of the club (I had to leave on a fairly early bus), I didn’t register for a free trial. I only went in on the evening I arrived to enquire about casual rates. A friendly chap informed me it would be a reasonable $10, no haggling required. If the hours work for you, this is your simplest option. The facilities looked good at a glance, at the same standard as any modern chain.
3. Results Gym Nelson
1 Kinzett Terrace, The Wood, The Wood, Nelson 7010
Opening hours: Stated on their website as 600-2100 daily (contrary to what Google currently states)
Cost: Stated on their website as $30 for a short-term weekly pass at the time of writing.
As this gym is a little out of town and I had been successful in haggling a suitable price with City Fitness, I didn’t make the trek up here. My research suggested it was of similar standard to the other two gyms in Nelson. If you’re staying this side of town, go and check it out and let me know!
