Location and Entry
I visited Xtreme Gym Baños briefly at 8pm on a weekday evening to notice it was extremely busy and would have been a challenge to get on some of the equipment. When I returned at 630am the next day to use it, I was thankfully only the second customer there. By 745am, there were still only around ten people, making it an ideal time to work out.
Xtreme Gym Baños is medium-sized, set in the northeast of the town centre, a couple of blocks east of the bus station.
Facilities
It comprises one square open floor with a good range of cardio equipment, namely two rowing machines and several each of crosstrainers, treadmills and bikes. Whilst none of these looked particularly modern, they were all functional and in use by others in the gym.
Like the nearby Nitro Gym, there were no lockers and I could not see any showers, but there were sufficiently clean toilets for each sex – take your own toilet paper.
The gym is in the basement, although even at 630am it seemed just a little warm – no sign of fans or aircon.
Weights and Functional Training
The dumbbell weights were in pounds, going up to 70lbs. There were a few fixed weight barbells going up to 20kg and some adjustable ones. Some equipment was a little creaky and not in the best condition, although most was working. There is plenty of floor space central to the gym, along with a few mats, kettlebells and skipping ropes.
Summary of Xtreme Gym Baños
Whilst both gyms cost the same and were of a similar size and with a similar amount of weights equipment, my personal preference was Nitro Gym. The equipment there was a bit newer and in better condition, although you do need to walk up and down between the two floors to use it (exercise bonus!) and staff were extremely friendly. However Xtreme Gym Baños wins hands down on cardio equipment!
