Location and Entry
Jetts Lake Taupo is well-located within easy reach of most central accommodation in Lake Taupo, just a couple of blocks from Pak n Save.
Many Jetts clubs offer free three (consecutive) day trials during staffed hours Monday to Thursday, yet the small print states you must be resident in New Zealand. I registered online for the trial and went along to see if staff were likely to check my residency, (saying as little as possible in the hope they wouldn’t notice I don’t have a local accent!). She unfortunately did question if I lived there, to which I replied I was travelling around for now. She assured me that as there are Jetts gyms across New Zealand, I would be likely to find one wherever I choose to settle here.
I was allowed a free trial but warned not to try and get one at every Jetts gym in the country! I have no idea if this is cross-checked on computers – due to the limited days and hours the trial is valid for, it was actually the first gym in New Zealand where I’ve used Jetts.
Facilities
Jetts Fitness Lake Taupo has high quality, modern new equipment as you’d expect in any decent chain. The gym is medium-sized with a full range of free weights including fixed weight barbells and cardio equipment. There is some dedicated floor space, and during off-peak periods it’s easy enough to make your own.
There are a couple of unisex showers (could be a bit cleaner!) and toilets for use too.
Definitely well worth taking a free trial here if the days and hours fit your schedule.
Summary
If you are staying in Taupo for a short period, my advice is to take a free trial at Jetts if possible and use BodyWorx the rest of the time.

For longer stays in Taupo or New Zealand generally, it is worth considering a no-lock-in membership with Jetts. Also see my post on Gyms in Lake Taupo.
Spending a few weeks or longer in New Zealand?
Jetts is an excellent chain which has numerous clubs around the country. It has very reasonable weekly rates, allowing access to all clubs nationwide. This might be worth considering if you are staying in New Zealand for a few weeks or months. Weekly rates are low and vary from around $6 – $13 per week, but some packages involve a $45 fee, whilst others tie you in to a contract for 3 or 12 months.
The most attractive option I could see for a medium-term stay in New Zealand was the $10.95 per week deal. This appears to have no lock-in contract as I write this, although you do have to pay the $45 fee. What is attractive about it is that you can use all the clubs across the country as you travel. Click here to see the membership options. Then click “Join now” under any of them to read the T & C’s or talk to them directly.
