Location and Entry
I was fortunate to learn about BodyWorx Taupo from my hostel, which displayed a poster stating it was $5 per session for backpackers – fabulous. (Note, the price has increased to $8 since publishing this.) It’s not limited to this hostel either, it is a general price for backpackers, located very close to most backpacker accommodation towards the north of the town. You’ll find it around 500m north of Pak ‘n Save. I went along the following morning and was greeted by a very friendly lady who showed me around.
Facilities
I found a very good range of equipment in this medium sized gym, although the layout is not ideal because it’s split over three small floors. Not that I’m against the extra exercise in going between them, but when you’re not familiar with where things are, it takes more time to get acquainted with it all! However it follows a broadly logical structure.
Although some equipment is ageing a little, it’s all functioning well and there are plenty of free weights and floor space.

Summary
Overall BodyWorx Taupo is a good gym with friendly staff at an excellent price. Top choice in Taupo if the free trial at the nearby Jetts isn’t practical. Also see my post on Gyms in Lake Taupo.
